Tempo Boy

“I don’t like this job”

Mizan, age 8

“ I have been working on this tempo during the last month. I earn 30 taka a day. I came from Barishal. My father died about a year ago. He had a gastric ulcer. My mum married again and brought us to Dhaka. We rented a house in Azimpur – it costs us 400 taka a month. My mum works in a garment factory now. She earns about 500 taka a month, but she does not like the work. She is looking for a position in a hospital. My brother does not work, and my stepfather is nor working either, so my mum and I provide the financial support for the family. I don’t like this job. I hope I’ll be able to work in a restaurant soon.”
