PESSENGERS
The
tempo will not start until all the seats are sold. Entry is via
the rear of the vehicle. Most passengers sit on the rexine
covered benches: two facing each other at the back of the tempo
and a third behind the front seats. Twelve people are squashed
into a space barely big enough to seat eight. For the lucky ones
there are two places up on the front seats next to the driver.
Tempos are
the cheapest form of public transport in Bangladesh. The fare
per mile is 1 taka (2 pence). The average speed of a tempo is
30mph.
Passengers say they like to travel by
tempo because it is cheaper, faster and safer than the
ubiquitous tricycle rickshaw. |
